Getting Zemaira

What can I expect after my doctor prescribes Zemaira?

When you first start therapy, it's natural to feel overwhelmed by the process. Here is what you can expect:

  1. Your doctor will send a referral to a specialty pharmacy. The two specialty pharmacies that your doctor may use are Accredo and Coram (a division of Apria Healthcare).
  2. An advocate from the specialty pharmacy might contact you to obtain more information about your healthcare coverage or to explain further aspects of your care.
  3. A case manager from AccessMed – a third-party administrator that works with CSL Behring – will make initial contact with you. Your case manager will assist you with anything you need as you begin therapy, such as helping you develop coping strategies or suggesting an activity program.

At this time, you'll also have the opportunity to get in touch with a mentor who can help guide you. Additionally, if you've already had contact with a Patient Support Specialist as part of your decision-making process, or would like to begin speaking with one, you can also opt-in for contact with them.

Remember, you can decline the services of CareZ at any time. We know this can be a trying time for you, and we want to be there to help make it easier.

Important Safety Information

Alpha1-Proteinase Inhibitor (Human), Zemaira® is indicated for chronic augmentation and maintenance therapy for adults with alpha1-proteinase inhibitor (A1-PI) deficiency and emphysema. Clinical data demonstrating the long-term effects of chronic augmentation therapy with Zemaira are not available.

Zemaira may not be appropriate for the following adult individuals as they may experience severe reactions, including anaphylaxis: individuals with a known hypersensitivity and/or history of anaphylaxis or severe systemic reaction to A1-PI products or their components, and individuals with selective IgA deficiencies who have known antibodies against IgA.

In clinical studies, the following treatment-related adverse reactions were reported in 1% of subjects: asthenia (fatigue), injection-site pain, dizziness, headache, paresthesia (tingling), and pruritus (itching).

Zemaira is derived from human plasma. The risk of transmission of infectious agents, including viruses and, theoretically, the Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) agent, cannot be completely eliminated.
